Yobe to Construct Modern Market in Damaturu

Damaturu - Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State has said the state government would build a new modern market in Damaturu, the state capital to accelerate business and commercial activities.

Gaidam said the construction of the market has already been budgeted for in the state's 2012 budget and that tenders will be opened to interested bidders for its construction soon.

"We intend to start building this market before the end of the year. We will have up to 1,000 shops at the initial stage. We will also have such other services as roads, a clinic, police station, fire service station, etc in the market," the governor said.

Gaidam expressed confidence that the government will recover the money to be spent in building the market within ten to 15 years.

Commissioner for Land and Survey, Barrister Bala Haladu has said the new market will occupy one-square kilometer.

Meanwhile there is improved security around the Yobe State capital with business owners, banks and markets resuming day-to-day activities in Damaturu.
