Tanzania Requests 24-hour Road Construction for Afcon Projects

 The Tanzanian government has directed contractors to accelerate road construction and rehabilitation projects linked to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), mandating 24-hour work schedules to ensure timely completion. Authorities emphasized that the infrastructure upgrades are critical to supporting the influx of visitors and teams expected during the continental football tournament, which will showcase Tanzania on the global sporting stage.

 
Ministerial officials stated that the round-the-clock directive is aimed at avoiding delays and ensuring that transport networks are fully operational before the competition begins. Roads leading to stadiums, hotels, and training facilities are being prioritized, with contractors instructed to mobilize additional manpower and machinery to meet the tight deadlines. The government has also warned that firms failing to comply with the new schedule risk penalties or replacement.
 
Local communities have expressed mixed reactions to the accelerated works. While many welcome the improvements and the economic opportunities AFCON is expected to bring, concerns have been raised about noise, dust, and disruptions caused by continuous construction. Officials assured residents that safety and environmental standards will be enforced, even under the intensified work regime.
