Construction of Muvumbe Hydro-power Dam in Uganda kicks off

 The  construction of the US$ 18m Muvumbe Hydro-power Dam in Uganda has kicked off. Located in Kabale District, Kigarama village in Nyanja parish, Maziba Sub-county, The mega project will be constructed by Vidullanka PLC from Sri Lanka.

 
The ground breaking of this important project was presided over by the Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda who hailed the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Uganda, Mr. Kana Kananathan for thinking of partnering Uganda with Sri Lanka.
 
“We are happy that Mr. Kana Kananathan is acting as an adopted son of Uganda by bringing such investors. We are aware that after the completion of this power dam, it will be sold to our country for permanent ownership,” Dr Rugunda said.
 
The Muvumbe Hydro-power Dam in Uganda which is projected to produce 6.5MW of power will be completed in the next 18 months.
 
The Sri Lankan investors also pledged to construct a Health Centre dubbed Kigarama Health Centre II and five bridges which will be part of their corporate social responsibility.
 
The Ugandan government decided to focus on this hydropower dam venture because it is vital in the development of their country.
 
Vidullanka PLC constructs and operates renewable energy projects, using hydro, solar and wind power sources. As a BOI approved company incorporated in 1997, Vidullanka plays a significant role in developing the island’s renewable energy generation capacity and contributing to the National Grid.
