The National Treasury, acting on behalf of the Kenyan government, has formally commenced the implementation of 1,236 projects worth Sh8.1 billion.

These projects, which will be funded by the Equalisation Fund, are intended to ensure that basic services reach around six million Kenyans living in marginalized areas. The projects would be spread throughout 34 counties, including 366 wards and 111 constituencies.

The statement came during the inauguration event at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), which was attended by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. The projects are an important milestone toward enhancing access to services in some of Kenya's most underserved areas.

Mudavadi emphasized the progress that has already been accomplished, stating that 359 projects have been completed under the Equalisation Fund, benefiting nearly nine million Kenyans in 14 counties that were initially categorized as marginalized. Of the finished projects, 265 are fully functioning and ready for handover.

The new projects will involve constructing key infrastructure such as 115 classrooms, 177 boreholes with clean water, 41 water pans, and 176 health facilities, 53 of which will be fully equipped to serve local populations.

These projects demonstrate the government's commitment to the "Bottom-Up" development model, which ensures that funds are allocated based on the requirements of local people.

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi confirmed the government's commitment to the Equalisation Fund, noting that Sh900 million was already disbursed upon his appointment.

He further emphasized that the Equalisation Fund exemplifies a productive relationship between national and county administrations, reinforcing the necessity of devolution in achieving equitable growth across all areas.

The introduction of these programs demonstrates the government's continuous commitment to promoting social and economic equality and making sure no Kenyan falls behind in the country's development plan.
