Kenya to upgrade Moi International Airport at the cost of US$66m

The French Agency for Development (AFD) has signed a US$66m deal that will see the Moi International Airport in Mombasa being upgraded.
The loan will be used by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) to renovate airside pavements, airfield ground lighting and to upgrade the water and power supply to the airport. This is in a bid to keep the airport at recommended international aviation standards and recommended practices, according to Lucy Mbugua, the KAA Managing Director.
Upgrading Moi International Airport will involve installation of two enhanced 33kVA electric feeders to help boost power supply at the airport. KAA had earlier on announced their intent to upgrade the airport this year where the authority is to build a new runway, terminal buildings and power supply boost.
The Moi International Airport is the second largest airport in the country and it serves a number of international, regional and local airlines. It is strategically located to cater for the needs of the millions of tourists who flock the Kenyan coast annually. With regular connections to over twenty cities, Mombasa continues to be a top tourist destination and the airport has been upgraded to control traffic from long-haul international flights.
