Tanzania: Tarime to Construct 20 School Laboratories

Tarime - TARIME District Council says it would successfully implement the directive by President Jakaya Kikwete to build laboratories in all public secondary schools within shortest possible time.

The council plans to start building a total of 20 laboratories any time from now. Aim is to have all the laboratories ready by November, this year, according to the Tarime District Council Chairman, Mr Amos Sagara.

"We are going to construct 20 modern laboratories in all 20 wards with secondary schools and equip them with learning facilities," Mr Sagara told the 'Daily News' in Tarime on Sunday.

Already, there are six ward secondary schools with laboratories in the district. President Kikwete ordered every public secondary to have a laboratory across the country as soon as possible.

In a bid to fast track the directive, Tarime District Council has resolved to inject large amounts of money it anticipates to get as service levy from North Mara Gold Mine to boost construction of laboratories.

If all goes well the mine will give the council 1.5 billion shillings come October, this year, according to the District Council Treasure (DT) Mr Andrew Amede.

"The council management is recommending that we use this money for construction of laboratories so as to implement the directive which has been given by honourable President," Mr Silvanus Gwiboha, the Acting Director at Tarime District Council told a full council meeting late last week.

The latest district council full meeting endorsed the use of funds for construction of laboratories The rest of the funds will be directed on provision of health and water services in the small towns of Nyamongo and Sirari.
