Malawi: Govt to Construct Standard Houses - Msaka
Lilongwe - The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Bright Msaka has said Government is ready to support and improve lives of people by constructing standard houses in the country.
On Tuesday the minister conducted a tour of housing construction in Area 49 in Lilongwe by the MHC-Henan Construction Company, speaking to journalists Msaka said government has plans to improve the infrastructure throughout the country, it is going to build houses for Malawians of all classes in rural and urban areas.
"We are going to help the people in the country to construct affordable houses across the country," said Msaka.
The construction is in first phase and 104 houses are under construction. MHC-Henan Construction Company will build 638 houses. Some areas to also benefit from similar project are Area 38 in Lilongwe, Geisha in Mzuzu and Nkhumbe in Blantyre.
The minister applauded the Anhni Foreign Economic Construction Company (AFECC) for the good work of constructing the National Stadium which will be ready by December 2015.
"The national stadium is going to change the face of Malawi," Msaka said.
The supervisor of AFECC Huifang Li reiterated that the company is facing serious theft problem which is disturbing the operations at the working premises. "Thieves have stolen some pipes (metal) two days ago," she said.
The minister, however, has asked the Police to tirelessly guard the place and arrest people connected to the robbery.
"It is discouraging to hear that some people are stealing construction materials which are disturbing the operations. Let Police do their job," he said.
