Construction of Lauca Dam Generates Over 3000 Jobs

The project for the construction of Laúca dam in Cambambe municipality, northern Cuanza Norte province, will generate at least 3.700 direct jobs and 2.100 indirect jobs in its construction phase, said on Wednesday the manager of the programme for the corporate social responsibility of Odebrecht, Estevão Mbela.

Speaking to Angop, Estevão Mbela said that the construction of the project gathers at this time 3.120 workers, most of them Angolans (about 85 per cent).

According to him, the referred project estimated at AKZ 280.8 billion, was financed by the Angolan government and started to be implemented in July 2012 along the medium course of Kwanza River in São Pedro da Quilemba commune in Cambambe municipality, in the border lines of the provinces of Cuanza Norte, Malange and Cuanza Sul.

He added that the project also enables the training of youths aiming to ensure the same Job opportunities in future projects, after the conclusion of the construction works of the referred dam.

To be concluded in 2017, Laúca dam will comprise two power stations, where one station will produce a total of 2.000 megawatts, corresponding to 334 megawatts per day, and the second one will include an ecological power station with capacity to produce 70 megawatts.
