Minister inaugurates construction of 121 km road in Niger

The Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, on Thursday inaugurated the construction of Mokwa – Bida road, in Niger, worth N10.9 billion.

The road, which is approximately 121 kilometres long, links the Lagos -Kano highway.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Onolememen said that the project demonstrated President Goodluck Jonathan’s belief in the economic empowerment of the people.

He assured that the road would be completed in 24 months. He said the project would be financed by both the World Bank and the Federal Government.

Mr. Onolememen said that the project, when completed, would enhance the movement of people, goods and services.

He enjoined the road sector development team to ensure the successful delivery of the road on time.

“You should, throughout the duration of this project, pay attention to the quality of work and deadline set by the government,” he said.

Earlier, Governor Babagangida Aliyu, represented by the Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Adamu Usman, thanked President Jonathan for approving the project.

He said that the road would open up the rural communities in the state.

The governor assured the minister that the communities, through which the road passes, would provide enabling environment for the contractors.
