Kenya: Trans Nzoia to Build a 100 Acre Industrial Park
Trans Nzoia will build a 100-acre industrial zone for investors. The county government is sourcing for a suitable area where the industrial zone will be build. Interim county secretary Stanslus Ondimu said Governor Patrick Khaemba is in talks with various players on how to promote investments in the county.
"We are working on the integrated development plan in which the industrial zone is one of the key things we plan to implement," Ondimu said. He was speaking at his office in Kitale when he hosted a team from Radio Africa Group led by Business Development Manager Cornelius Muli. Ondimu said the county government is perusing other plans including a joint venture with neighbouring counties on the setting up of a fertiliser plant.
The factory will reduce the costs of farming which leads in maize harvests. "Alternatively we will look into ways of importing the fertiliser as counties so that it reaches farmers at cheaper prices rather than use middlemen to bring in the ," Ondimu said. Ondimu said they will partner with the Radio Africa Group to market opportunities and resources available. He said the county administration will improve infrastrucure
However he said the county was also planning to set up its own radio station through which it will mobilize the public for development programmes. "The media has a critical role to play in helping the counties achieve their objectives hrough marketting of the opportunities available,"said Ondimu. Ondimu said residents of the region should also be able to diversify ther activities and venture into other economic areas away from farming so as to maximize the use of all resources available in the county.
Khaemba has planned to host ann investors conference after mapping out all opportunities in the county.
