Zambia: Freedom Park Shopping Mall to Open in October
THE long-awaited Freedom Park Shopping Mall in Kitwe, will be ready for official opening in Ocotber this year, Platimum Gold Equity managing director, John Serlemitsos has said.
Mr Serlemitsos said the mall will be ready for opening to the public on October 24, this year and assured that there would be no more postponements on the opening of the mall which was supposed to have been completed and opened in April 2010.
Mr Serlemitsos said this last week when Kitwe District Commissioner Elias Kamanga toured the mall.
He explained that KR12 million has since been injected to cover about 75 per cent of the project.
"The shopping mall will be opened to the public on October 24, this year although it will not be the entire mall that will be ready," he said.
Mr Kamanga said Government was anxious to see the mall completed as it would provide much needed jobs to a number of youths in the district.
He said it was gratifying that the project was almost complete after having stalled for a long time.
He urged Platinum Gold Equity, the developers of the mall, to stick to the promise which they have made of opening the mall on October 24.
He further assured prospective tenants at the mall that there was great business potential in Kitwe and urged them not to rescind their plans to operate at the mall.
And Kitwe City Council Town Clerk, Bornwell Luanga who accompanied Mr Kamanga on the tour, expressed satisfaction at the works and the progress made at the site.
Mr Luanga said the local authority was also anxious to have a fully fledged shopping mall in the city as that would increase its revenue base through various property taxes and trading licences from the traders that will be housed at the mall.
Freedom Park Mall will comprise a shopping complex, a hotel and an office park among other facilities.
