Tanzania President Samia Suluhu visits Kenya in bid to improve relations

Tanzania President Samia Suluhu says her visit to Kenya on May 4th is aimed at cementing the historical friendship and brotherhood that exists between the people of the two neighbours.

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta will receive her at State House, Nairobi on the same day.

Gerson Msigwa, The Tanzanian government spokesperson has confirmed that President Samia will address the combined houses of Kenyan Parliament during her visit.

The Tanzanian leader, who took over from John Pombe Magufuli following his death in March this year, will come to Nairobi nearly 5 years since her predecessor made a similar visit.

This is also said to be President Samia’s second state visit after her one day state visit in Uganda on 11 April.

The two heads of state are also likely to speak on tariff wars between the two countries that have over the years resulted in decrease in trade.

Suluhu mentioned that during her tenure as Tanzania’s President, she will strive to strengthen Dar-Nairobi relations, particularly in economic collaboration.

President Suluhu visit in the country on Tuesday morning for a two-day state visit have already signed a deal for the transportation of liquefied petroleum gas via pipeline from Mombasa to Dar es Salaam.

The head of State said Suluhu’s visit validates her aspiration to continue improving and strengthening good neighbourliness.
