Volta River Authority in Ghana to inject 110MW to the national grid
National electricity producer Volta River Authority in Ghana has pledged it will inject 110MW of power to the national grid before the end of 2015.
According to the Project Manager of Kpong Thermal Power Plant (KTPP), Francis Agbenyo, the authority will inject an additional 110MW to the national gridcome February 2016 to attain the targeted 220MW of power by 2016.
Dr. Kwabena Donkor, the Power Minister paid a courtesy visit at the plant project site where he gave his word of honor to resign failure of him to manage the nation’s current power crisis stretching beyond this year. Earlier before he toured the plant site, Dr. Donkor had assured Ghanaians of ending the power challenges by end of this year.
He further expressed his confident that the power situation will soon be put under control in order of the plant to operate efficiently. Additionally, VRA will boost the situation by adding a steam component that will heighten the plant generation capacity to 330MW of power within the phase I of its operation and later increase to 450MW of power during phase II of operation.
The KTPP project was initially scheduled for completion by 2018; however, the completion agreement has been rescheduled to 2019/2020. When completed, KTPP is expected to generate power capacity of between 700MW to 800M of power.
Volta River Authority in Ghana is tasked with the core business to generate and supply electrical energy for industrial, commercial and domestic use in the country.
