Uganda: New Vision Journalist Wins Award
A New vision journalist Gladys Kalibala has been awarded by Edutainment Africa Awards. Kalibala a writer received the accolade for candidly and empathically addressing issues of society through her publications of real life stories.
The award in the category of best edutainment Newspaper write- up was presented to Kalibala by Farida .K. Nambi the Founder and President Nambi Children Initiative.
Kalibala was among the several recipients of the 16 categories of Edutainment Africa Awards who were honored on the 1st December 2012 at Serena Hotel.
Raila Odinga, Kenyan Prime Minister was in absentia awarded a life time achievement accolade and certificate. Innocent Ogwal the Chief Executive Officer Awards said Odinga was recognized for his generous contribution to the development of the education sector in Africa.
SHUGA: Love, sex, money was awarded the overall Edutainment award for the highlights on pressures of modern Africa on young people. SHUGA is a hard-hitting drama that follows the lives, loves and ambitions of a group of young people whose bright lives and fabulous futures are balanced on the knife edge due to their love of living dangerously.
Innocent Ogwal Awards Chief Executive Officer said Edutainment Africa Awards is a pan-African International system that recognizes and appreciates efforts geared towards the development in African countries. “We identify and award noble people who use their talents and skills to develop society,” Ogwal said
The award ceremony which was officiated by Elly Karuhanga the Awards patron, was attended by Dr Ian Klarke, Proprietor IHK and Program director/community social responsibility MTV international UK – SHUGA, Louise Ashely and president of the Indian community.
There was creative dance performance by Uganda National Contemporary Ballet.
“I thank the readers for appreciating my work and nominating me. This wouldn’t have been possible without them. I am grateful to Vision group for mentoring me and providing the space,” Kalibala said.
